5 Steps to Communicating Confidently About Your Project

Project status reports are a key communication tool for project managers.
This course will help you:

  • Save time on reporting
  • Create reusable templates (or simply use the ones included in the course)
  • Set up processes with your team for collecting updates to go in the report
  • Get your message across more clearly
  • Present yourself and your project professionally.

This fully-online, self-paced course includes:

Step One: Understand Your Audience

I'll show you who is listening and why that matters.

Step Two: Choose The Best Format
You're not just limited to documents. Let's go over your choices and choose what's going to work for you.

Step Three: Define Your Content
Work out what you really need to say (in the shortest possible way).

Step Four: Craft Your Message
Tips and tricks for formatting your report to make it easy to read.

Step Five: Ask For Action
How to get people to make decisions (my favourite part of this course!).

Bonus Lesson 1: Writing About Red
Learn how to communicate bad news (hint: project reports alone are not the answer).

Bonus Lesson 2: Reports For Recognition
You can get yourself some extra credit if you talk about your successes, and your team's successes in your reports. We'll look at how.

The small print

I provide no guarantees that your stakeholders will suddenly love your project and act on your reports. Buying the course does not guarantee results: doing the work will certainly help but I make no promises as to the results you will get in your personal situation.

You buy a single-user licence: in other words, please don't share the course materials.

We're a UK company and are governed by UK law.

All the ebooks, templates, checklists and bundles are digital files.

I'm unable to provide technical help, due to the variation between different IT systems.

Training courses are provided via the Teachery platform. You will get an email with your login details. If you do not receive them, please get in touch and let me know - I will make sure you have access to the course materials.

Here are some instructions that may help you access the ebook and template files if you are having trouble.

Are you trying to download on a mobile device like a phone or iPad? Most mobile devices will not let you open a .zip file, or download via a link. Please try to access the files via a desktop/laptop computer.

How to unzip a .zip file:
Zip files are compressed files, so they take up less space when they are being saved and transfered. In order to access the templates inside, you need to unzip the file.
On a laptop or desktop computer:
  • Save the file to your computer.
  • Right click
  • Choose 'Extract all'
  • Select a destination for your files (Browse to where you want them to be saved)
  • Click Extract
  • Navigate to where you saved the files to open them.

If you want to access the files on your mobile device, you can add them to iCloud or Dropbox so they are shared across your devices.

How to read a PDF file:

Your computer may already have Adobe Reader installed on it (most do). On an iPad, you can open a PDF file in iBooks.

If you don't have software on your device that can read a PDF file, pleaase install one. Adobe Reader is the most common software (it's free).

Download it here.

How to find your files:

This has happened to me multiple times: I download something and then can't find it on my computer! Check the Downloads folder (under My Computer). Or use Explorer to search for the name of the file you just downloaded. Sometimes you can also see the file in your browser download history.

Read the terms and licensing related to how you can use the templates and files.
